Digital Capabilities Offer Benefits for Patients and Physicians |
The CRR Imaging Center in Angier recently installed new X-ray equipment and a Konica Minolta Xpress CR (computed radiology) system. The Xpress CR system generates super high resolution images that appear in just 40 seconds, thus decreasing the amount of time a patient must spend to undergo testing.
With this new digital-capability equipment, X-ray images no longer have to be stored on “hard copy” film. X-rays now join the digital process used for CT scans, MRIs and other tests (excluding mammograms) at CRR. Radiologists can manipulate images on a high-resolution monitor for faster interpretation and comparison. Test result images are also stored in the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), which allows images to be easily recalled for comparison with subsequent tests performed.
For patients, CRR’s digital capabilities mean they no longer have to pick up and return bulky films needed for follow-up appointments with their physician. Images can be output on disk, and multiple copies can be made. For facilities that are inter-connected with CRR, images can be transmitted electronically.
